About Us:

Mount Rogers Landcare Group was founded in 1999 and concentrates on the Mount Rogers hilltop reserve, bordered by the suburbs of Fraser, Flynn, Melba and Spence. The on-ground work is focussed on improving the biodiversity of the reserve, and includes weeding and the establishment of native vegetation. Over 50 or more individuals have participated in Group activities.
Since their formation, the Group has participated in several on-going weed eradication programs. For example, in 2001 the group focused on St. John’s Wort. For the past 3 years CUPPS have undertaken a very successful program to manage serrated tussock on the reserve. In 2005 Urban Services assisted the group by spraying patches of privet and cotoneasters.
Many native trees and shrubs that were planted along the northern edge of the reserve in the seventies were removed as a response to the 2003 fires, as part of the fire-hazard removal plan throughout the ACT. In 2005, in a bid to restore habitat for small birds, plantings were placed 'above' the line of the main path. This was a major effort by Mt Rogers enthusiasts & Conservation Volunteers Australia participants. Species included trees, shrubs, grasses and forbs.

An attractive brochure about Mt Rogers was developed in 2005 and proved very popular with those who utilise the area. A 2nd edition was printed in 2006. Information sheets as updates are produced occasionally
On World Environment Day 2005 & 2006 short introductory walks were held.
