About Us:
A relatively young member group, the Macgregor Landcare Group was established in 2001, as a result of a ‘Neighborhood Futures Project’ implemented by the ACT Planning and Land Authority. There are currently about 16 active members who come to regular working bees along the Ginninderra Creek corridor from Florey Drive to Dunlop. The Group also does some on-ground works on Mount Goodwin.

The Group regularly takes part in Clean Up Australia Day events each year, to combat the ongoing problem of litter and rubbish that regularly gets washed down through the stormwater system. While dumping is not identified as a major problem, shopping trolleys are regularly found in the creek!

The Group is responsible for a number of significant plantings of native trees, shrubs and grasses in the area, with National Tree Day often providing a focus for these plantings. The Group has worked with the Macgregor Primary School, planting a tree for each year group on the school grounds in 2002. Other areas of native regeneration sites include near the Macgregor Primary School, Berne Ct, Crago Place and Mount Goodwin. The Group also regularly undertakes woody and other weed removal.

The Macgregor Landcare Group often collaborates with the neighboring Dunlop Environment Volunteers, in order to consolidate efforts and bolster the outcomes that each group is able to achieve.
Community education is also important to the Group. For example, a series of creek walks were conducted in early 2003.
Group members identify the need for closer collaboration with ACT Government services such as mowing contractors, in order to protect Landcare plantings, and to ensure contractors’ practices are not conflicting with Landcare objectives.

The Macgregor Landcare Group is also involved in government consultation processes regarding the West Macgregor residential development proposal, and consultation processes such as discussions about the Macgregor shops and other neighborhood planning issues.
