Welcome to this journey of discovery about the Ginninderra catchment.
It is a journey that will help you appreciate the importance of catchments as natural watersheds, as complex landscapes and as places where we have made our homes.
It is a journey that will take you back to earlier times; to see the catchment through the eyes of the traditional owners, the Ngunawal people, and the early European explorers and the settlers who followed.
It is a journey that will enable you to view the catchment from satellite imagery and to gain some perspectives of it’s place within the much larger Murrumbidgee Catchment system.
It is a journey that will help you understand how our settlement and development have impacted our catchment landscapes and affected the way its hydrology functions.
Importantly, it is a journey of lessons learnt and wiser actions to better ensure a more ecologically sustainable future for the Ginninderra Catchment and its communities.
Special acknowledgement must be paid to Stephen Selden from the North Belconnen Landcare Group for researching and creating much of this material. While some of the text is written in a personal style to assist local Landcare groups, it does have much wider relevance.
